Policeman rescued by public

ETAH: People came to the rescue of a police Sub-Inspector, who was allegedly being dragged by a group of criminals whose vehicle he was checking in Marehara town near here.

According to eyewitnesses, Salamat Khan was dragged inside a four-wheeler and was beaten up by about half-a-dozen criminals during a routine checking of vehicles in Marehara town on Wednesday.

The criminals were taking Khan towards Mohanpura town, but a group of people chased the vehicle and rescued the police official, police said.

The accused managed to escape, leaving behind the driver who later told the police that the criminals were planning to abduct some persons.

Police recovered two country-made pistols and some cartridges from the car.
