BHAGALPUR: Two policemen, suspended on the charge of assaulting and dragging a chain-snatcher tied to their motorcycle two days ago, were dismissed from service on Thursday.
LB Singh, an assistant sub-inspector, and constable Ramchandra Rai have been dismissed by DIG (Bhagalpur range) G Sharma and superintendent of police, Bhagalpur, JS Gangwar, respectively.
The two policemen were accused of joining a crowd in thrashing Mohd. Aurangzeb, who had snatched the chain of a woman devotee, at Manaskamnadhish temple at Nathnagar, about five kms from here, on August 27.
They had tied the man's leg to a motorcycle and dragged him for several metres as he writhed in pain pleading for mercy.
The incident had triggered a public outcry following which the errant policemen were placed under suspension.
