HONG KONG: The world's largest passenger jet, the Airbus A380, will fly through Hong Kong's harbour next week as part of Asia's largest air show, the company said on Thursday.

The double-decker plane will make the flight across the city's famous Victoria harbour on September 3, weather permitting, an Airbus spokesman said in a statement.

It will take off from Hong Kong International Airport at 7:30 am (2330 GMT).

A local media report said the plane would fly at the same level as Victoria Peak, 1,810 feet (552 metres), but the company declined to confirm any details citing security concerns.

The tallest building among Hong Kong's numerous skyscrapers is International Finance Centre Two at 1,372 feet. Most planes heading into the airport fly further north than the harbour.

The plane will then track around the south of island before heading back to the airport, the company said.

The first commercial flight of the A380 is set to take off on October 25 with a flight between Singapore and Sydney.
