RAMALLAH: Indian government is constructing a boys school named after its first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and a cardiac surgery centre in Gaza, which is now under the control of Islamic group Hamas.

Preparations are in the final stage for the construction of the Jawaharlal Nehru Boys Senior Secondary school, Representative of India in Ramallah, Zikrur Rahman, said. “Besides, a cardiac surgery centre and one industrial and technology park would also be set up in Gaza and the Prime Minister’s Secretariat would be built in Ramallah,” Rahman said.

The project was part of a $15 million grant to the Palestinian Authority by the Indian government, he said. “We have also planned to bring an Indian chair in Al-Quds University and a library there,” he said.

Two Indian-aided projects have already been completed in the Gaza Strip, namely the Jawaharlal Nehru library at Al-Azhar University and the Mahatma Gandhi library at the Palestine Technical College in Deir Al-Albalah.
