JHALARAPATAN: Security has been stepped up for Sunday's Gurjar Mahapanchayat here seeking ST status for the community with 5,000 police personnel deployed in the town.

Gurjar leaders Col Kirori Singh Bhainsla and Dr Roop Singh are expected to take part in the Mahapanchayat, expelled BJP leader and MLA Prahalad Gunjal, also one of the patrons, said.

He said the state government should send the approval letter for granting ST status for the community.

Gunjal said the mahapanchayat has been called "to show the Gurjars resentment over his expulsion", from the BJP.

He claimed that at least two lakh Gujjars from across Rajasthan and adjoining state would take part in the mahapanchayat.

Four companies of the Special Task Force have also been deployed near the venue, Chandrabahaga Mela Ground.

The Rajasthan Roadways has suspended bus services from Kota to Jhalawar, Indore, Ujjain and Bhopal for the day.
