MUMBAI: Sanjay Dutt, sentenced to six years imprisonment by a TADA Court, is likely to be served with the judgement copy on August 27.

The Supreme Court granted interim bail to Dutt on Monday as he had not yet been served with the judgement copy. The apex court also said that the actor will have to surrender on receiving a copy of the judgement and that he can apply for regular bail thereafter.

Regarding his release on interim bail from the Yerawada Jail in Pune, the TADA Court sources said that it would be done only after receiving the Supreme Court order and furnishing of the bail bond and surety by the actor here.

It was, therefore, unlikely that he would be released on Monday as the process would take some time, they said.

The judgement copy would also be served to others convicted in the case by August 27.

The apex court has also granted interim bail on the same grounds to five others- Sameer Hingora, Aziz Ahmed Mohammad Ahmed Sheikh, Ibrahim Musa Chauhan alias Baba Chauhan, Yusuf Mohsin Nulwalla and woman convict Zaibunnisa Anwar Kazi.

Meanwhile, senior counsel Majid Memon, who had represented some of the accused in the trial, said the Supreme Court has continued the bail of only those convicts who were on bail when the judgement was delivered.

The others cannot apply for bail on parity and therefore they are waiting for the judgement copy, after which they shall move the apex court in appeal and seek bail.
