BANGALORE: As the baritone voice of the imam preaching the virtue of peace resonated in the neighbourhood, silence enveloped the residence here of Kafeel Ahmed who died in Britain of injuries sustained in a botched terror attack.

Except for the echo of prayers being offered at the nearby Masjid-e-Khudadat, it was unnerving stillness which pervaded Kauser, the home of the Ahmeds.

"Move away, move away, I say," a feeble, grief-stricken male voice, probably that of Kafeel's father Maqbool Ahmed, emanated from indoors.

But the media, present in the neighbourhood in full strength following reports of the death of Kafeel, the man who allegedly drove a burning jeep into the Glasgow airport on June 30, refused to budge.

The doors of Kauser remained closed even for an elderly relative who came to visit the family. The relative, carrying a bag, was mobbed by the media as soon as he made his appearance, making it difficult for him to make his way into the home.

"It is a very sad moment. Please leave them in peace," he implored. "You think with all of you standing out, anyone is going to respond? Please be human, have a heart" the irked relative said as he walked away with disappointment and anger on his face.

On Friday morning, DCP Alok Kumar, who visited the area as part of his regular rounds, spoke to neighbours and inquired with people in the mosque whether any special prayers were being offered for Kafeel.

People at the mosque, however, informed him that no such prayers could be offered unless Kafeel's parents made a request and were present to join them.

Personnel of the Crime Branch too visited the area.
