MUL July domestic sales up 18.3 pc

NEW DELHI: India's largest car maker Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) on Wednesday reported an 18.3 per cent jump in its domestic vehicle sales during July at 52,839 units as against 44,653 units in the same month last year.

The company's exports grew a whopping 188.9 per cent during the month to 5,070 units compared to 1,755 units in the same last year, MUL said in a statement.

Sales in the A1 segment, which comprises MUL's flagship entry-level hatchback Maruti 800, were marginally down during the month to 5,970 units as against 6,040 units in July 2006.

In the A2 segment comprising hatchbacks Alto, Wagon-R, Zen and Swift, the company sold 34,737 units compared to 29,326 units in the same month last year, up 18.5 per cent year-on-year, the statement said.

On the back of new models like premium sedan SX4 and SUV Grand Vitara, the company's sales in the A3 and MUV segment during the month grew 105.1 per cent and 113 per cent respectively.

During July, MUL sold 4,394 units in the A3 segment comprising sedans Esteem and SX4, while it sold 524 units in the MUV segment comprising Gypsy and Grand Vitara, it said.

In the C segment comprising Omni and Versa, sales were up 4.6 per cent during July to 7,214 units as against 6,899 units in the same month last fiscal.
