MUMBAI: Nurses in Maharashtra have threatened to go on strike from Tuesday demanding pay rise among other things.

Maharashtra Nursing Federation (MNF) have given the strike call, state health directorate officials said.

The nurses demands include immediate implementation of sixth pay commission report, promotion for those who served for more than 12 years, allowance for maintenance of uniform, bonus for nurses (which was cancelled eight years ago) and scrapping of contract employees.

Nurses from J J hospital, St.George, Cama and G T hospitals will join the strike, senior members of MNF said.

MNF members said there are several vacancies which are not filled and each nurse currently has to take care of approximately 40 patients and thus not able to give proper care to them.

Meanwhile, senior doctors in J J hospital told that hospital services will not get affected as adequate arrangements are being made to take care of the patients with the help of student nurses, students of medicine and homeguards.
