Reality TV show hunts for students to study in UK

MUMBAI: A new reality TV channel will hunt for students vying to study in Britain's top-ranked universities.

"Airtel Scholar Hunt, Destination UK" is aimed at 12th grade students to give them an opportunity to study in Britain. Miditech, one of Asia's largest independent production houses, is behind the new show.

"The show aims at tapping the growing desire of youth to pursue higher education overseas," Niret Alva, director of Miditech, said on Wednesday.

The contest was conceptualised by NDTV and will be televised on the NDTV 24x7 channel. The first show went on air on July 14 and the series will be aired twice a week on Saturday and Sunday at 7 pm.

The show, anchored by Arun Thapar, is also available in Britain on BSkyB.

The contest will offer Indian students a chance to study in one of five established British universities in Warwick, Cardiff, Sheffield, Middlesex and Leeds.

At the end of the series, five students will be awarded a scholarship worth over Rs 40 lakh for an undergraduate programme or a bachelor's degree. They will get a chance to study engineering, media and journalism, biomedical sciences, computer science and management.

Competitors will face challenges in five competition stages, including online exams, a subject exam, an interview, quizzes and competitive tasks.
