11 highway dacoits held near Dahanu

THANE: The cops from the Kasa police station of the Thane rural nabbed 11 dacoits on the Gol toll naaka on the Mumbai-Gujarat highway at around 1.45 am on Tuesday.

They were going towards Gujarat in a tempo (MH-04-DD-4891) when their vehicle was stopped by the police. On frisking the tempo they found iron rods, sticks, hammer, butcher knives and a mobile phone. The arrested were involved in several dacoity cases on the national highway.

“When we interrogated, the arrested persons confessed to have committed some dacoities in Gujarat and Mumbai,” said a police official from the Kasa police station. They have been remanded to police custody till July 21 by a Thane court.

Investigations revealed that all the arrested persons are the residents of Indapur area near Pune. “We are interrogating the accused and only after that we will come to know that in how many dacoities they were involved. It is learnt that a few cases of dacoities are registered against them in Mumbai and Navsari in Gujarat,” said the official.

In another breakthrough, Thane rural police nabbed two kingpins who have been running dacoity gangs in the state. According to the police, they have received information that the duo were residing in Kanpur. The police then went to Kanpur and nabbed the duo. The duo was involved in more than 25 dacoity cases throughout the state.
