NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing on a petition seeking disqualification of UPA-Left nominee Pratibha Patil from the Presidential
election.

Justice B D Ahmed posted the matter to September 24 after being informed that petitioner, who is not keeping well, has sought adjournment. "Rajeev Tiwari (petitioner's relative), appearing for him, said the petitioner is unwell and seeks adjournment. Only
on this ground, the matter is adjourned to September 24," Justice Ahmed said.

Additional Solicitor General P P Malhotra, however, strongly opposed the petition saying, "this is an abuse of the process of court and no petition challenging election process can be entertained once, the notification has been issued."

Senior Advocate and Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi also informed the court that the same person sought to appear in the Supreme Court in similar matter and the court had dismissed his petition.

The petition was filed by one Sanjay Tiwari, associated with Delhi-based NGO - Indraprastha People- alleging that Patil being Managing Trustee of Mumbai-based
Shram Sadhana Bombay Trust, which is under the control of state government, was holding the office of profit making her ineligible to contest the President's election.

Notably, the Supreme Court had on July three dismissed a petition seeking cancellation of nomination papers of UPA-left nominee Pratibha Patil for Presidential election
saying there was no sufficient document to substantiate allegations against her.
