Some parents have decided to move a PIL against the state board’s move to award 30 grace marks in Mathematics.

Shrikant Thakur is one such hassled parent. “The grace marks have really pushed the number of students who scored more than 90 per cent high. We are going to lose out on a seat in the colleges of our choice. That also led to many undeserving students scoring high percentage,” said Thakur, who is all set to seek legal help.

Some parents, seeking anonymity, said they would file PIL against the board move. Thakur said, “Despite scoring 88 per cent, my son is upset that he won’t be able to get a seat for science stream in colleges like DG Ruparel and Ramnarain Ruia College. This year, admissions have lost its standard and several will get into the merit list by grace marks.”

Students are upset. Take Ashutosh Nerkar. After securing 82 per cent, Nerkar is struggling to get a seat in the city colleges. “Look at the rise in the number of students securing distinction. I have applied in eight colleges. The board’s decision is unfair to students,” said Ashutosh.

Ashutosh, who wanted to get into Vaze-Kelkar College, said securing a seat in the college of his choice would now be
distant dream.
