MUZAFFARNAGAR: Four persons of a family were on Tuesday arrested for allegedly poisoning a woman in this district, police said.

According to the police, Simmi was allegedly forced to consume poison by her husband Kuldip and his family members at Kheri Karmu village.  She has been admitted to a hospital and her condition is stated to be serious.

A case has been registered against five persons and four, including the victim's father-in-law, have been arrested while Kuldip is at large.

In a separate incident, a woman was arrested for allegedly killing a child and injuring another, on the advice of a 'godman' who claimed that by sacrificing children she would become a mother.

Ashadevi entered the house of Sompal Kashyap at Taprana village on Monday and stabbed his two sons, Ankit (4) and Suraj (6). Ankit was killed on the spot and when Suraj raised an alarm, she was overpowered by those in the house, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ajai Anand told newspersons here on Tuesday.

Ashadevi was childless and took the step on the advice of a local 'godman' who asked her to sacrifice two children in order to become a mother.

Suraj has been hospitalised and the 'godman' is absconding, he added.
