HYDERABAD: A 42-year-old Andhra Pradesh government employee has died here after allegedly being confined by agents of a debt recovery firm having tie-up with a leading private bank.

Victim Y Yadaiah's wife, Sunanda, has filed a complaint with the Punjagutta police here alleging that her husband was tortured to death on Saturday. The case was registered on Sunday under sections 342 (wrongful confinement) and 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

Punjagutta Inspector G Narasaiah said, "we are awaiting the post mortem report...If it turns out to be a case of murder, the sections will be altered accordingly".

The loan recovery agency, Elite Financial Services, which has a tie-up with ICICI Bank, claimed that Yadaiah, an electrician in Medical and Health Department, collapsed due to fits in their office and died after being shifted to a hospital.

Inspector Narasaiah said the recovery agents have admitted to having taken Yadaiah to their office in Ameerpet and asked him to clear his debt.

The police complaint alleged that Yadaiah of Yapral in Alwal on city outskirts had taken a loan of Rs 15,000 from ICICI bank a few months ago and defaulted.

It said Raju, an agent of Elite Financial Services, went to Yadaiah' house yesterday and called him. When Yadaiah was not found in the house, he asked his wife Sunanda to give his photograph, it said.

Later, the agent along with his colleagues, allegedly picked up Yadaiah from his ofice in Sultan Bazar.
