World-famous Kosha silk, block-printed sarees, wooden and metal artefacts prepared by tribals from Bastar in Chhattisgarh will be on display at the two day exhibition-cum-sale beginning from June 14 organised by the Bastar Mitra Mandal.
Disclosing this to newspersons on Tuesday, state BJP joint-spokesman Shaina NC stated that the proceeds of the sale would go to the Bhartiya Kushtha Niwarak Sangh (BKNS), an NGO engaged in treatment of sickle cell anaemia among the tribal children of Bastar.
Bastar, once a land with rich natural and cultural heritage, today has the dubious distinction of being the most backward regions in the country. The tribals in the area do not have access to basic amenities, with sickle cell anaemia affecting 25 percent of the population. The area is notorious for the Naxal menace too. The BKNS headquartered at Katenagar, Champa in Chhattisgarh since last 46 years has been engaged in leprosy eradication and treatment of sickle cell anaemia.
The exhibition which will be held at Mahila Vikas Mandal hall on the Jagannath Bhosale Marg, Colaba will be inaugurated by BJP MP Hema Malini. State Minister for Textiles, Satish Chaturvedi, Chhattisgarh Minister for Tourism Brijmohan Agrawal, Poonam Sinha, Dimple Kapadia and MVM chairperson Sangitrao are slated to grace the occasion.
Shaina NC added that the artefacts which will be on display are competitively priced ranging between Rs50 for small bronze and wooden artefacts to Rs1,500 worth Kosha silk sarees and block- print silk sarees and dress materials.
