LONDON: John Emburey on Tuesday said that he had never been offered the job of India's cricket coach and he was not looking to leave English county side Middlesex, where he is Director of Cricket.

After South African Graham Ford turned down BCCI's offer to take over as India's coach, there had been some speculation whether Emburey, who was the other candidate called for the interviews, would be sounded out for the post.

"In response to this speculation, John met with Vinny Codrington, the Chief Executive of Middlesex, and told him that he does not want to leave Middlesex and wishes to
continue as Director of Cricket," a statement said.

"John would like to emphasise that at no point was he offered the role as Indian Coach and would like to thank the BCCI for the opportunity to interview for the position.

"I have just got my teeth in to a big new challenge at  Middlesex and want to stay to complete the job and extend my 36-year association with the club," Emburey, who took 147 wickets in 64 Tests and 76 scalps in 61 one-day internationals for England, said.
