The Crime Branch has decided to felicitate 50 policemen for exemplary service, but it has no clue where there are now posted. So, a notice has been sent to all police stations.

Former Crime Branch sleuth Rajan Pillai who died recently is in the list of awardees. And even his present posting has been sought in the notice.

Explaining the faux pas, joint commissioner of police (Crime Branch) Meeran Borwankar said, “You must appreciate two things. Firstly, it is the administrative branch that issues these notices. While 50 officers may have worked with the Crime Branch and done exemplary work, there are 83 police stations and 50 other special branches where they may have been transferred. So, the notice has to be sent to all these units to confirm where exactly they are now posted.”

About Pillai’s death not being registered, Borwankar said, “It is surely a clerical error by the administrative branch. The people there are merely concerned with the issuance of administrative missives.”

The system of giving cash rewards to Crime Branch officers was started in 1997.
