Dharavi man confesses molesting kids

Sanjay Patil, arrested by the Dharavi police on charges of sodomising children in his neighbourhood, has told the police that he had fondled them and had shown them pornographic videos.
 
The 45-year-old man has, however, denied the sodomy charge. He was arrested on June 1 from Worli, hours after a case was registered against him by parents of the victims. “During interrogation, he confessed to having fondled the kids. We are recording the statements of his relatives,” said an officer from the Dharavi police station.
 
The medical report of the children has said that were “scars on the private parts”, the officer said. They had been sent to the Nagpada police hospital for a medical check-up. The report indicated that Patil had sexually abused them.
 
The victims’ parents are an aggrieved lot. “It is an unpardonable crime. He victimised innocent kids. He must not be spared,” said one father.

Patil is accused of sexually abusing 11 children, including two girls. A few among the victims said they were threatened and even given electrical shocks when they tried to resist him.

Patil’s wife Saroj is distraught. “I never knew that my husband could do something as shameful as this,” she said. Patil allegedly abused his nine-year-old daughter and five-year-old son. He was booked under Sections 354 (molestation) and 377 (unnatural sex).
