VADODARA: After the row over controversial paintings by a student of M S University which angered the Sangh Parivar, the institution finds itself in the throes of another controversy over 'provocative' sketches allegedly to hurt the sentiments of a minority community.

A complaint has been registered against a senate member of M S University and four others for allegedly pasting the 'provocative' sketches, police said.

The complaint was registered by one Farid Lakhijwala on Thursday night against M S University senate member Deepak Shah and four others after 'derogatory' sketches were found near the D N Hall housing Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya on the campus of the varsity.

Police said it has begun investigations into the matter.

Lakhjiwala, in his complaint, said it was Shah who had offered a reward of Rs one lakh to anyone making an artwork on Prophet Mohammed during the recent unrest at University campus because of the controversial exhibition by Chandhramohan, a student of the university's Fine Arts Department, which invited ire of saffron outfits.

Shah had offered the reward during a rally outside the faculty of Fine Arts on May 14 when artists from across the country gathered at the faculty to protest the arrest of Chandramohan in connection with the exhibition and suspension of incharge dean Shivaji Panikkar.

Police inspector K B Jadeja said they are trying to trace originals of the 'provocative' sketches.

The sketches seem to be the handiwork of persons wanting to vitiate the atmosphere in the city and investigations will expose it, Police Commissioner P C Thakur said.

Meanwhile, owner of a local news channel Ajay Dave and photographer Maulik Patel were beaten up by people when the duo had gone to take pictures of the sketches.
