Police had traced her cell phone and even recorded the conversation

Haseena Parkar, who apparently gave sleepless nights to Mumbai Police over last fortnight at last surrendered in court. With the surrender, the police officers concerned may be relieved, but the fact is that they had information about her whereabouts since last seven days.

Surprisingly, when the city police, once considered to be at par with Scotland Yard, was searching Haseena Parkar all over the country, she was having a gala time in Nagpada. The city police had sent teams to Gujarat, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on her trail anticipating possibilities of Haseena try to escape to Pakistan via Nepal. So much so that a team of the city police was camping at her native place in Ratnagiri district.

Special teams of the city police even tripped Mira Road, Vasai, Mumbra and Bhiwandi. The most embarrassing of all the odds is the fact that two special officers of the city police made rounds of Nagpada and Mohammed Ali Road almost thrice a day with hopes of getting information about her.

To show their commitment and exhibit confidence to arrest Haseena, the investigators even obtained a non-bailable warrant against her. However, they could not even manage to extract any information from the informers despite being pressed to limits.

To top it all, police even tapped the landline phones in Haseena’s house with a hope to get any clue about her, but all in vain.

A senior officer attached to the Anti-Extortion Cell of Mumbai police, who was member of the team on Haseena’s trail on condition of anonymity, told DNA on May 18, “We have traced Haseena Parkar’s mobile phone and got her location. The conversation on the mobile phone has also been recorded. She will be arrested soon”.

However, the officer pleaded to maintain secrecy in the matter considering gravity of the problem and had requested not to publish the report.

Mohammed Iqbal (name changed) a resident of Nagpada and a police informer said, “The police officers who were running from pillar to post to arrest Haseena Parkar were aware that she was in Nagpada all these days. Though she was not in her house, it was not very difficult for the police officers to locate her.”

A senior police officer said Mumbai crime branch has been divided in three groups one each working for Arun Gavli, Chhota Rajan and Chhota Shakeel. There is concrete evidence of police officers being in regular contact with the gangsters. “Given the proximity of crime branch officers with underworld Haseena Parkar being arrested by these officers was day dreaming”, the officer said.
