Tiwari to leave for UK for shoulder operation

KOLKATA: Manoj Tiwari, who was injured in a practice session before the ODI series against Bangladesh, will leave for London on Tuesday to undergo an operation on his injured shoulder.

CAB President Prasun Mukherjee on Monday said famous orthopaedic surgeon Andrew Wallace will conduct the operation at King Edward Hospital.

The entire expense for Tiwari's treatment will be borne by the BCCI.

"I have spoken to Board President Sharad Pawar who felt that a promising player like Manoj should get the best possible treatment," Mukherjee said.

Tiwari is expected to return by May 30 and undergo physiotherapy and have rest for a period of eight to 12 weeks before he can play again.

Tiwari, a member of the Indian team to Bangladesh for the ODI series, had to come back after getting injured during fielding practice on May 9, on the eve of the first one-dayer at Mirpur, Dhaka.

He consulted orthopaedic specialist Anant Joshi in Mumbai who recommended an arthoscopic surgery. However, to get a second opinion, the CAB got him examined by orthopaedic R Roy, who also recommended surgery and spoke to Wallace about the matter.

After examining the MRI diagnosis, Wallace detected a large detachment of the 'anterior lambrum' of the socket in his shoulder and advised 'arthoscopic stability' surgically, as it was unlikely to heal naturally.
