AIMF seeks CM's resignation over police firing at Hyderabad

NEW DELHI: The All India Minorities Front (AIMF) on Sunday held a day-long dharna here and demanded resignation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajshekhar Reddy over the police firing following the May 18 blast at historic Mecca mosque in Hyderabad.

Addressing the protestors at Andhra Pradesh Bhawan here, AIMF president S M Asif said that the chief minister failed to protect the lives of innocent member of minority community, an official release said.

AIMF also submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Chief Minister, to the state's resident Commissioner in Delhi and sought his resignation over the issue.

Terror had struck during Friday prayers at the mosque when a powerful bomb ripped through a gathering of thousands, leaving 14 people dead, including three in police firing.

"We the members of the AIMF have come to seek your resignation from the office of Chief Minister, as you have miserably failed in fulfilling your Constitutional obligations of keeping the members of the minority communities safe and sound," AIMF said.

Meanwhile, Ilyas Azmi, an MP from Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh, today sought dismissal of Andhra Pradesh government over the issue.

In a release, Azmi said that the police firing on persons, who were rushing to hospitals with the blast victims, was "intolerable".
