HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Governor Rameshwar Thakur expressed "deep shock" at the blast at the Mecca mosque that left 12 dead.

In a message, Thakur said: "I am deeply shocked to learn about the loss of lives and injuries to some people in the bomb blast in the historic and holy Mecca Masjid today. Any civilised society will not pardon this type of cowardly and heinous act."

Thakur conveyed his condolences to members of the bereaved families and prayed for the recovery of the injured.

In a separate message, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu said, "I express my shock and sorrow over the tragic incident. This incident should be strongly condemned by all of us. I earnestly appeal to all sections of people to maintain peace and not to get agitated over it," said Naidu, also Leader of Opposition in the state assembly.

"Our great city is famous for its communal concord, social harmony and mutual brotherhood. I appeal to all not to get carried away by rumours and to remain calm in this testing hour," Naidu said.

He appealed to his party workers to donate blood and to extend help to those affected by the blast.
