Depts on ground floor of bldg will be vacated by June

MUMBAI: The Central Railway plans to set up a museum inside the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (earlier known as Victoria Terminus) building as part of the proposed renovation of the Gothic structure.

The revamp plan was chalked out after CST was included in the list of World Heritage Sites by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

The ground floor of the main administrative building, where the proposed museum will come up, houses a library, dining hall, the public relations officer’s department, and the pay and cash offices.

Divisional Railway Manager JN Lal said: “Shifting so many departments will take time.

But by mid-June, we plan to vacate most of the departments and transfer them to the annexe building. This portion will gradually be converted into a museum.”
