Both the parents and the local police were baffled by the mysterious disappearance of 32-year-old Gurmukh Singh, a resident of Sher-e-Punjab Colony, Andheri East who went missing on May 3. His body was subsequently recovered from a well in a remote village falling under the jurisdiction of Bhayander police station on May 4.

The investigation officer, police sub inspector Dhamne of Bhayander police station told DNA on Tuesday that preliminary investigations revealed no foul play but a clear picture would emerge only after the findings of the post mortem report.

The parents of the deceased, however, did not rule out the possibility of their son being murdered. According to them the needle of suspicion points towards Singh’s business partner Sushil Zankar who happens to be the son of an Assistant Sub Inspector with the Mumbai police.

According to Singh’s father Jasmer Singh, who arrived from Jammu to perform the last rites, his son Gurmukh Singh was a qualified engineer and after spending some years in Delhi came to Mumbai in early 2006.

Though Abbu’s two married sisters lived in the city, he preferred to hire a room for himself at Stay Inn lodge, Sher-e-Punjab Colony.

While in Mumbai, according to the family, Abbu along with Sushil Zankar started a placement company under the name of Zian Career Solutions having offices Borivili and Dahisar. The parents suspect that there may have been some financial dispute between the two partners which would have led to the tragic death of their son.

During interrogation, Sushil is said to be have denied that Abbu was his partner but Abbu’s father showed DNA bank receipts confirming money transfer in Sushil Zankar’s account.

Police investigations so far reveal that Abbu, Sushil and their two girl companions Jasmit Saluja and Poonam Dass had dinner at Sai Punjab Hotel, Sher-e-Punjab Colony on
the night of May 3 and on the morning of May 4, they were spotted together at the Dargah of Hazrat Baba Shah Pir near the village of Taarodi.

The police further added that at around 11 am on May 4, Abbu jumped into the well and committed suicide – a theory which his parents refuse to believe.

They have now sought an appointment with higher ups in the police to demand an impartial and fair probe into circumstances leading to their son’s death.
