SUJANGANJ/JAUNPUR: Driving home the point that he will play a long innings in Uttar Pradesh, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday said he would come here again after the assembly elections to resolve the people's problems.

"I will come again to your areas and not only try to find out what problems you are facing but also make all possible efforts to solve them," he told an election meeting here.

Accusing successive non-Congress governments of exploiting the people and dividing them on caste and religious lines, Rahul said the people "know better" what the condition was when other parties ruled the state.

"I am here to work shoulder to shoulder with you. It will take time but with the youth of the state behind me, it is my pledge to ensure development for the people and I will not backtrack on my decision at any cost," he said.

He said youths in other states were in the "driving seat" while in Uttar Pradesh "they are deprived of development and employment opportunities".

The Centre contributed 45-50 per cent to the state's budget but the condition of schools, hospitals and roads were in a deplorable state, Rahul said and asked "where are the Central funds going?"

He alleged funds were not utilised in the state and asked the people to find a solution by voting the Congress to power.

Rahul appealed to the people to vote for party candidate Shyamraj Singh from this constituency while his roadshow in Jaunpur to garner support for Congress nominee Rajesh Singh drew large crowds, with people sitting on rooftops to catch a glimpse of him.
