AHMEDABAD: Three bank accounts of BJP MP Babubhai Katara, arrested in a human trafficking case, were on Saturday frozen at the request of Delhi Police, official sources said.

A Delhi Police team visited some banks in Dahod, including the Bank of Baroda, and asked for Katara's accounts to be frozen, the sources said.

The team was tightlipped about its investigations in Dahod, which Katara represents in the Lok Sabha, and subsequently left the town.

The Delhi Police team arrived in Gujarat on Friday and tried to ascertain the whereabouts of Katara's wife and sons but could not trace them.

The team, comprising a sub-inspector and two constables, visited Katara's house in Jhalod town and went to his native village of Chitrodia to search his home there.

Katara, a two-time MP from the tribal district of Dahod, was arrested at the Indira Gandhi international airport in New Delhi while allegedly trying to take a woman and a teenaged boy to Canada using the passports of his wife and
son.

Investigations have revealed that Katara had allegedly taken huge amounts of money from the woman and boy, who are not related, to give them safe passage to Canada.

Police are also investigating whether Katara is a repeat offender and if other MPs are involved in human trafficking.
