NEW DELHI: The sting left by the ruling Congress and other partners of the UPA coalition for the controversial CD issue has proved to be a blessing in disguise for the BJP.

The vitriolic attack has actually reunited senior party leaders and closed the ranks of the Sangh Parivar as Uma Bharti on Friday announced withdrawal of her candidates from the ongoing UP polls for the “unity of Hindu votes”.

The incident has placed Leader of the Opposition LK Advani back at the helm of affairs, making strategy to counter the political rivals, holding meetings with senior party leaders and keeping an eye on campaigning and touring UP. It was Advani, who first made the bold move of unleashing an offensive on the UPA government and the Congress for filing an FIR against the party president. The move suppressed gossips in the party circle relating to a difference of opinion between him and Rajnath Singh. The party chief is leading the party from the front in his home state, UP.

Despite a series of electoral victories in Punjab, Uttaranchal and the MCD polls, there was mutual distrust due to organisational reshuffling. Party’s general secretary Arun Jaitley is one among the many who felt marginalised.

But with a high-pitch campaign led by the Congress and other parties seeking de-recognition of the BJP, Jaitley is the most sought after leader. His professional expertise, brilliance in legal matters, has done a huge service to the party.
