MELBOURNE: Concerned about Shane Watson's never-ending injury woes, Cricket Australia's medical staff will investigate whether the all-rounder's 'muscle bulk' was making him prone to frequent breakdowns.

CA feel Watson's injury woes are threatening his place in the side and an urgent review of his training was needed after the World Cup ends this month.

"We've got to sit down and think about him in general. That's probably going to happen at the end of the season," Australian team physio Alex Kountouris was quoted as saying in the 'Sydney Morning Herald' on Monday.

"But say if we were concerned about his muscle bulk, then there's only a little bit you can do about it," he added.

Kountouris, however, admitted said it was virtually impossible to change Watson's physique even after reviewing his fitness regime.

"He hardly does any gym work, and he's still got the same body type. You are not going to see him next year coming in and looking like Glenn McGrath, for example," he added.

Watson has been struggling to keep himself fit since making his debut and has been plagued by a string of injuries.

The all-rounder's latest calf strain, which he picked up during the Super Eight match against Bangladesh, threatens his World Cup campaign but the physio said the injury was not serious enough to keep him out of the entire tournament.

"I don't think it's a month injury, but we'll have to see how he goes in the next couple of weeks," Kountouris said.

"My initial thoughts are it's not a really bad strain. But it's a muscle strain halfway through the tournament so it's obviously a bit of a concern," he added.
