NEW DELHI: Accusing the Congress Government in Delhi of violating the model code of conduct in force for the coming municipal polls, BJP on Wednesday approached the state Election Commission.

"We have got a representation in this regard from the leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi, but have not taken any decision so far," Delhi State Election
Commissioner S P Marwah said.

Earlier, Mukhi told reporters, "when the announcement for the Lt Governor's address was made, we had submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission demanding that the address should not list the achievements of the Government or any future schemes," Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi told reporters.

But, while no future schemes were announced the address highlighted the achievements of the state government, he said.

"This is a pure violation of the code of conduct in force for the coming municipal polls," he added.

Meanwhile, a total of 51 candidates have withdrawn their nominations for the April five MCD polls.

While 39 candidates withdrew their nominations today, 12 had done the same yesterday, Marwah said.

Terming the LG's address as "a bundle of white lies", the party's Delhi unit President Harshvardhan said, "efforts have been made to mislead the people through the address of the LG".

"It is a lie that during the year 2007-08, the plan outlay has been increased from 5,200 crore to 9,000 crore. In reality the Delhi Government has demanded only 7,200 crore
from the Planning Commission and the rest Rs 1,800 crore had been given to them the commission itself in view of the needs of the city," he claimed.

Blaming the Congress Government in Delhi for the poor power, water and civic infrastructure in Delhi, he said, "the city is craving for basic amenities."

On the rejection of nomination papers of BJP candidate from Mahavir Enclave Sharmila Pandey, Harshvardhan said, "she (Pandey) will approach the court for relief".

"It was a one-sided and technical decision, and she did not have any inkling about the state of her petition which she had filed," he said.

"Lawyers have said that she has a very good case," he said.

However, in case she cannot contest the polls, we will take a decision on backing any of the independents, the BJP leader added.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister V P Singh's Jan Morcha today said it will contest a total of 72 seats in the coming MCD polls.

The selection panel cleared 72 names after interviewing and finding positive reports related to each candidates, Jan Morcha Delhi unit chief Manjeet Singh said.

The panel is also considering applications of independent candidates who has been seeking Jan Morcha's support.
