NEW DELHI: As Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, who has been on bail in Argentina pending proceedings for his extradition to India has threatened to sue Interpol, the CBI on Thursday told the Supreme Court that though the two countries don’t have an extradition treaty yet, it is serious about bringing Quattrocchi to New Delhi.

The fugitive Italian businessman is contemplating criminal action against Interpol that detained him in Argentina responding to a Delhi court’s order for his arrest about a decade ago.

While Quattrocchi says Interpol has breached his “human rights under the international law,” CBI affidavit responding to lawyer Ajay Agrawal’s petition alleging the probing agency inertia in relation to Quattrocchi, charged the petitioner with holding a ‘media trial’ in this case.

The CBI’s affidavit says it had taken all possible measures to secure the extradition of 69-year old businessman. It worked overtime to get a plethora of documents translated into Spanish language. Translating the documents has been emphasised in the affidavit.

CBI officials in Argentina have submitted the translated copies of the Bofors documents to Indian ambassador Parmathesh Rath. Rath has found the papers to be in order and submitted them to the Argentina judge.
