NEW DELHI: Lakhs of students on Friday appeared for social sciences papers on the first day of their class X Examinations at various centres across the country and abroad.

About five lakh students from 4,789 CBSE affiliated schools had registered themselves with the central education body for examination across various disciplines.

Overall, seven lakh students have registered themselves for the Class X exams that will be held at 2,490 centres.

In Delhi, there are 2,07,317 candidates for the Class X exams that will be held across 555 centres.

The Class XII examination, which began on Thursday, is being conducted in 2,243 centres across the country and 33 centres in foreign countries.

In Delhi, 1,56,257 students had registered for the Class XII exams that are being held at 533 centres.

The board has made bulkier answers sheets this time so that students do not waste time asking for supplementary pages.

The CBSE is also introducing hi-tech optical character reading (OCR) sheets for computerized evaluation in science practicals for Class X.

The Class X examination will continue up to March 28.
