LONDON: Post her newly-found stardom in Britain thanks to Celebrity Big Brother (CBB), Shilpa Shetty gave an exclusive interview to DNA at the Zee Carnival in London.

How do you feel about coming to UK this time as a Big Brother star and not just a Bollywood actress?

It is absolutely fantastic. Everyone recognises me now, not just the Indians. I am beginning to feel that Britain is a second home to me because of the amount of love I have got here. It is certainly different coming here now because everyone knows who I am. I have been on the cover of almost every UK magazine and people come up to me and know me as Shilpa Shetty, not just Shilpa. Can you imagine even the New York Times has written about me. It’s a wonderful feeling.

Are you doing a film with Hugh Grant?

This is just a rumour that the papers have put out. There is nothing in it. That is not to say I would not like to do it if the opportunity came my way.

What about Hollywood offers?

There is nothing concrete as yet for me to announce and certainly not from Hollywood. My work is primarily in India, but feelers have been put out and you never know what may happen in the future.

Has the response from Asians here been different to you since CBB?

Oh definitely. Previously they knew through my films, but now it is as if they know me as a person. They have given me so much support because I think they knew I was
doing the show to make every single one of them proud. We have shown that we are very tolerant people.

Will you be doing some work with anti-racism or anti-bullying organisations?

It depends if I have time. But I do think that my stint in CBB has brought awareness about serious issues and many people say they now realise they must stand up to bullies of any kind. It showed that bullies don’t look very nice. Recently I was told that a group of white children went up to some Asian children and said sorry after what happened to me in CBB. That is what it is all about.
