NEW DELHI: The Centre is mulling over the possibility of sacking Mulayam Singh Yadav’s government in Uttar Pradesh in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict holding the BSP split illegal. Yadav had lured 38 BSP MLAs to form his government in 2003.

The government is trying to take the CPI(M), a friend of the Samajwadi Party, on board before deciding about imposing President’s rule in the state, where polls are slated for this April-May.

Top Congress leaders discussed the matter with CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat. However, he said: “The place to test the majority of the government is on the floor of the House.”

But the CPI(M) politburo, meeting here on Saturday, will take a final decision.
