MARGAO: Chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar on Tuesday said the Indian team picked for the World Cup was capable of winning cricket's biggest prize in the West Indies.

"This is the best available team that we have selected and it has the potential to win the World Cup," the former India captain said on Tuesday.

Asked why the selectors have kept faith in Virender Sehwag in spite of the Delhi batsman's indifferent form, Vengsarkar said, "he's performed very well in the past and is an experienced player. He's got a lot of cricket left in him. He can also bowl. We hope he will do well".

Vengsarkar was curt when asked about the experiments and said the media had stretched it too long.

"It depends upon situations. We don't experiment. But we will try players in different positions as the need arises. You, in the media, have stretched the experimentation for too long," he said.
