The Anti-Robbery Squad of the city police arrested an Uttar Pradesh-based criminal at Kurla and recovered seven weapons from him on Monday. The arrested person was identified as Machla Sunder, 40. According to crime branch officials, they received specific information about a person arriving near Kurla bus depot to deliver fire arms to an unidentified customer.

Acting on the tip-off, the police team laid a trap near the bus depot at LBS marg in Kurla (West). At around 6.30 am, a 40-year old man arrived in a rickshaw and stood near the bus depot with a hand bag. Suspecting foul play, the cops searched his bag and found one country-made revolver, six country-made pistols and 50 live cartridges, including .315 bore bullets normally used in rifles, from the bag.

Sunder was booked under section 325 of Arms Acts for illegal possession of arms. He was produced before the metropolitan magistrate court at Azad Maidan on Monday and had been remanded in police custody till February 12.
