MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex gained over 16 points to set a new closing high peak of 14,131.34 mainly led by bank and capital goods stocks.
The 30-share index rose 16.61 points, or 0.1 per cent, to set a new high closing peak at 14,131.34.
However, the National Stock Exchange's Nifty lost 4.05 points at 4,076.45.
The market remained in a bullish mood after reports that industrial production expanded at the fastest pace in 11 years in November, besides steady inflow of quarter earnings by leading companies.
Information Technology stocks were in better form after Wipro announced a significant rise in net income in the third quarter.
MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex recovered by over 31 points in early trading on Wednesday on funds buying after IT major Wipro posted strong earnings for the third quarter.
The 30-share sensitive index, which had lost nearly 15 points on Tuesday, was up by 31.55 points at 14,156.28 in the first five minutes of trading.
Similarly, on the wide-based National Stock Exchange, Nifty index gained 14 points at 4,094.50.
Stock brokers said technology sector stocks were in good demand after Wipro posted better than expected earnings for the third quarter, showing nearly 46 per cent rise in its net profits at Rs 738.90 crore.
Wipro stocks were up by Rs 14 at Rs 651 on funds and retail investors buying.
Stocks of Satyam Computers and Tata Consultancy Services also firmed up.
Other index-related stocks such as ACC, Grasim Industries, Hindalco, Hindustan Lever, Cipla, BHEL, MTNL and Hero Honda also strengthened.
