Hizbul chief Salahuddin warns India that militants would launch attacks if security forces don’t stop rights’ violations

LAHORE: One of India's most-wanted Kashmiri militant leaders and the chief of Hizbul Mujahideen Syed Salahuddin has said he was sure that the Musharraf regime would never hand him over to India.

In an interview with Pakistan's Geo television channel recently, Salahuddin was asked whether he had ever had any concerns that Pakistan might hand him over to India under mounting international pressure.

The Hizbul chief said: “Pakistan and the people of Pakistan will not hand me over to India given the fact that I am a freedom fighter and not a terrorist as being claimed by India.”

The fugitive militant lives in Rawalpindi, though the Geo TV claimed the interview was conducted in Azad Kashmir. “As far as I know,” Salahuddin said, “the Pakistan government has already rejected India's demand to hand me over.”

Even otherwise, the Hizbul chief said, all those fighting the Indian occupation troops in Jammu Kashmir were freedom fighters and they would keep fighting India until it ends its illegal and dictatorial rule over the disputed Himalayan territory.

Salahuddin accused Indian security forces in Kashmir of human rights violations. He warned that India should stop committing atrocities against innocent Kashmiris or the militants would launch attacks inside other parts of India.

“We are capable enough to hit any soft target in any part of India. But we do not want to do this”, he said, adding that “our main purpose is not to interfere with the people of India. We are fighting against Indian imperialism that has enslaved us through its 750,000 army.”
