CAIRO: Egyptian police have detained a man for allegedly chopping up a German drama teacher and dumping his body parts in a suitcase because he refused to pay for gay sex, a judicial source said on Thursday.

Mustapha Maher, who works for a pharmaceutical company, allegedly confessed to killing the unnamed teacher after a suitcase containing the remains was found on a rocky plateau overlooking the Egyptian capital, the source said.

Police were able to identify the victim and the alleged perpetrator because the dead man, who taught at a German school in Cairo, had been packed into the case along with his mobile phone.

Maher was detained on December 27 shortly after the bloody baggage was found and allegedly said he committed the crime because the German refused to pay the agreed sum for sex.

He said he dissected the body and dumped it on the desert plateau in the hope it would not be found. Maher was ordered held for 45 days pending an investigation of the case, the source said.
