Manu knows the jail drill

NEW DELHI: Manu Sharma is presently getting acclimatised at Tihar, say jail officials. The scion of a billionaire business family, which dabbles in politics, hotels, orchards and several other businesses, Sharma is currently sharing a room with two other inmates at Tihar.

Though a lot of speculation exists about Sharma and his existence in Tihar,  if prison officials are to be believed then he is leading a pretty spartan life. “He has been in Tihar for over two years, so he knows the drill pretty well. Thereby he has been prudent enough to not ask for things that he knows he will not get,” said a senior Tihar official.

Regarding food, the jail rules are that twice a week prisoners can meet friends and family and get home cooked food. But since Sharma has been in jail since Monday, currently he is surviving on home food.

Jail officials add that from next week on he will have to make do with normal jail fare, which includes four chapattis, dal and subzi.

At present Sharma is being given time to adjust. “Whenever a prisoner gets life, we do give them time to adjust and think, as it is a huge emotional setback. Manu is in that state now.  Thereby no jobs have been assigned to him and he is looking quite normal. He spends a lot of time reading,” said an official.

Sharma also underwent a medical test where he was pronounced fit. Though jail inmates want him to partake in winter sports at Tihar, Sharma has not yet accepted the offer, though jail officials say that Sharma is keen on sports and will probably participate.
