MUMBAI: Gangster Dawood Ibrahim's nephew Sameer Wagle, along with four others, was acquitted in a case of illegal confinement and ransom demand by a local court on Tuesday.

Wagle was arrested along with the other four on February 15 for keeping two Mazgoan-based businessmen in illegal confinement and demanding ransom for their release.

"The prosecution has failed to prove its case and the court has acquitted Wagle along with the four others for want of evidence," his counsel M A Khan said.

Wagle, who owns a transport business, was under custody for a month in connection with the case before he got bail, Khan said.
