KARACHI: Pakistani fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif will know on Tuesday if they can play in next year's World Cup when the appellate tribunal announces its decision on the appeals they have filed against their doping bans.

Tribunal chairman Justice Fakhruddin G Ebrahim announced on Monday that he would reveal the findings of the tribunal after a lengthy process in which the lawyers of the two players submitted their arguments.

The players were also twice required to respond to questionaires sent to them by the tribunal that includes former Test player, Hasib Ahsan and Dr Danish Zaheer, the President of the Pakistan Sports Medicine Federation.

"The appellate tribunal has finalised its decision and sent it to the Pakistan cricket Board. But it will be disclosed publicly on Tuesday," a board spokesman said.

Shoaib and Asif were banned for two and one years respectively early November after they were called back from the Champions Trophy in India for testing positive for a banned substance nandrolone.

They failed the out-of-competition tests carried out by the Pakistan board before the tournament as part of its anti-doping policy.

Sources have revealed that the players are likely to get relief from the tribunal that has had internal differences over the verdict.
