DUBAI: India Pavilion, which is the largest and most spectacular segment of the Global Village, is set to open its doors to visitors from across the globe from December 13, 2006 to February 9, 2007.

Offering an unforgettable experience of witnessing a vast range of cultural performances, shopping for authentic Indian products and savouring mouth-watering Indian cuisine, it is likely to be the greatest crowd puller, as in the previous years, organisers said.

Bigger and better than ever before, India Pavilion is spread across an area of 1,30,000 sq.ft and will house 326 stalls from across India. A kaleidoscopic view of India’s traditions and cultures will be showcased in this award winning pavilion.

The Madhya Pradesh Government has joined as a partner state to the India Pavilion at the Global Village, Dubai 2006-2007. This endeavour will showcase the states tourism landmarks and rich cultural highlights. Visitors to India Pavilion will be greeted by a large replica of the 15th century Gwalior Fort measuring 90 mts wide and 11 mts in height. Over 100 artisans have been specially flown in from India to design the replica of the Gwalior Fort.

This year a lot of effort has been made to build the replica of the Gwalior Fort in terms of design and architecture in order to transport the visitors to the actual atmosphere of the fort. There would be over 30 stalls in the pavilion which will display products especially from Madhya Pradesh.

Also, the backdrop of the stage area would be the world famous Sanchi Stupa built by Emperor Ashoka. The Sanchi Stupa is one of the oldest stone structures in India. This focused exposure in terms of Indian architecture is expected to generate more crowds in the India pavilion.

The India pavilion has won awards in the previous years from the Government of Dubai as well as visitors of diverse nationalities. The awards won are Best Pavilion Award 2005, Best Global Day Award 2005, Best Folkloric Activity Award 2003, and Best Pavilion 1999 and 2002.

It is the only pavilion to have its own stage that has a capacity for over 1,500 spectators. Over 70 artists from Punjab have been called to perform at the India Pavilion.

The Kashmiri Chamber of Commerce and Industries would have 15 stalls covering an area of approximately 200 sq mts. Special handicrafts, carpets which Kashmir is famous for will be displayed here. Also, the Central Silk Board, which is part of the Ministry of Textiles, India will exhibit a very special blend of silks known as “Vanya Silks” viz Tasar, Oak Tasar, Muga etc to add to the variety of products at the India Pavilion.

The pavilion will also have “Gold Lane,” where all leading Indian gold and diamonds jewellers will have their booths in one lane.
