NEW DELHI: The heart of India’s BPO hub, known for its intellectual capital is now mourning the rabid and morbid act of two of its educated adults.

The death of Dr Amit Diwan a 35-year-old radiologist a victim of road rage in Gurgaon, has brought the focus back on the city and its inherent ironies where development and corporate culture are at loggerheads with crime and transgression.

Narendra and Jitesh Godhara, both graduate automobile engineers now face murder charges after the victim died on Friday. The Gurgaon police arrested Narendra, the driver of the car on Sunday; a day after Diwan succumbed to injuries after being in coma for nearly a month and a half. Jitesh, who was arrested earlier and was out on bail, is now absconding.

Says Hanif Quraishi, SSP, Gurgaon, “We have decided to convert the charges from section 307 to section 302 amounting to murder. Our next step is to arrest Jitesh and eventually file the chargesheet in court.”

Narendra and Jitesh are accused of having reversed their car on Diwan who was standing outside his house in sector 10A on October 18, dragging him almost 150 mts, leaving Diwan severely injured.

Diwan had raised an objection to the duo’s rash driving when their TATA Safari hit Diwan’s car parked outside his house.

Meanwhile, the Gurgaon chapter of the Indian Medical Association has taken up the issue to get justice for the Diwan and the bereaved family.

Says S P Yadav, President, IMA, Gurgaon, “We are pleased with the proceedings so far. We had appealed to the Gurgaon police to not treat this as a case of a simple accident. We will see the case to its logical end and hope that the police will continue to support us in getting justice for Diwan and his family.”
