AURANGABAD: Curfew has been reimposed in Aurangabad from 8:00 am on Saturday morning while it has been lifted in Osmanabad and relaxed in Hingoli and Nanded towns of Marathwada region.

The Marathwada region which remained tensed as agitation continued by dalit activists, protesting against the desecration of bust of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in Kanpur.

"Though, no fresh incidents were reported from any part of the Aurangabad city, the divisional headquarter of the region, the authorities have decided to reimpose the curfew after the two hour relaxation between 6:00 am and 8:00 am as precautionary measures," Deputy Commissioner of Police KG Patil said.

Mr Patil further said three companies of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) have been assisting the local police to maintain law and order situation. Thirty nine persons have been arrested during a combing operation carried out in sensitive parts of the city last night.

Barring, few fresh incidents of stone pelting and arson reported from Jalna district in the region late on Friday night, the situation was nearly peaceful in the central Maharashtra's Marathwada region, which had witnessed a spate of violent incidents in almost all the eight districts in last three days, forcing the authorities to clamp curfew as a precautionary measures.

''Situation in the troubled towns is nearly normal today, and so far, no major violent incident has been reported since last evening,'' Special Inspector General of Police Bhagwantrao More said.

Atleast two persons died in Osmanabad, one in police firing and another in a scuffle between police and the agitating mob on Thursday.

Curfew has been relaxed in the jurisdiction of three police stations of Nanded, Bhagyanagar, Vajirabad and Shivajinagar since 7:00 hrs, police control room sources said.

Curfew was also relaxed in Hingoli since 6:00 am after marked improvement in the situation there, sources said.

Sitaution in Parbhani, Latur and Beed was peaceful and no untoward incident was reported from these districts since last evening, the police sources at the respective district control room said.
