PATIALA: The kin of the man killed in a scuffle with former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu 18 years ago on Friday welcomed the Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament's conviction for culpable homicide, saying they had finally "got justice".

Jaswinder Singh, a nephew of the dead man Gurnam Singh who had filed the complaint against Sidhu and his accomplice Rupinder Singh Sandhu, told reporters here that it was good that the family had got justice.

He, however, said the judgment of the Punjab and Haryana High Court against Sidhu had come "very late".

Jaswinder (53) was with 61-year-old Gurnam at the time of the incident on December 27, 1988.

The High Court set aside the acquittal of Sidhu and Sandhu by a Patiala court and held the duo guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
