The citizens’ fight against the BMC’s proposed demolition of portions of three religious heritage structures for the widening of Bandra’s Hill road got a boost on Friday. BJP leader Gopinath Munde rapped Municipal Commissioner Johny Joseph on Friday evening.

“BMC must not hurt public sentiments while going forward with their development plans,” Munde told Joseph after meeting members of the H-West Federation who have been fighting against the proposed demolition.

The BMC has served notices to 300-year-old churches (St Andrews and St Peters) and the 150-year-old Parsi Agiary contending that they came in the way of the road-widening plans. St Andrews church adjoins the Stainasclaus School and a ground—a portion of which locals allege would also make way for a road.
