MUMBAI: Noor Mohammed Khan, a local builder, and Liyakat Ali Khan, an aide of accused Tiger Memon, who is absconding, were convicted by the Tada court on Thursday for their complicity in the 1993 serial blasts.
Noor was accused of agreeing to store 58 bags of RDX in his godown in Kashimira, Thane, and subsequently disposing of the bags in Nagla creek. While holding him guilty for possession of the explosives and concealing evidence, Judge PD Kode acquitted him of being part of the conspiracy, as there was evidence to show that he had agreed to store the RDX or that he knew of Tiger’s plan.
Noor had denied his involvement in the conspiracy saying his business partner and co-accused Mohammed Jindran (he died in 1998) had kept RDX in their godown. He said that on learning that some material had been stored, he immediately ordered that it may be disposed of.
Liaqat too, was convicted on similar charges of allowing his uncle and co-accused Yeda Yaqub and Tiger to store 80 cartons of RDX at his godown in MIDC, Thane and transporting them to other places. He was absolved of conspiracy charges as the judge held that the permission to store the cartons in the godown was given by his father.
