The Gujarat Bhoodan Samiti has initiated a survey to find out the status of donated land, especially in urban areas. According to the survey none of the land in the city is in the hands of the original beneficiaries.

“We have surveyed about 200 acres of land in Ahmedabad. The Samiti has filed 20 cases against land sharks,” said Muljibhai Patel, secretary of Gujarat Bhoodan Samiti.

This is for the first time after the Yagna that a survey has been carried out. “There was hardly any follow up of Bhudan movement and it came to our notice in the last few years that urbanisation has taken toll on a major chunk of our land,” said Muljibhai Patel, secretary of Gujarat Bhudan Samiti.

A major portion of land in cities including Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara has fallen prey to builders, he added.
